Strength Training with an Olympic Bar

We added an Olympic bar to the strength training equipment in our hotel gym. While the Smith machine on the Impulse ES2100 provides a very safe lifting experience, the Olympic bar adds the opportunity for free motion in all directions.
The bar of the Smith machine moves on a rail and provides excellent safety features like catch hooks. As lifters do not need to worry about instability, they can load more weight. It is ideal for training when you want to focus purely on power without worrying about balance.
However, on a Smith machine, the stronger arm tends to compensate for the weaker arm. This is different when training with an Olympic bar, which forces the muscles to stabilize the weights. Critical safety accessories can be hooked up to the rack, such as safety spotter arms (or safety bars) and J-hooks (J-cups). Some movements, such as deadlifts, are better with an Olympic bar because it allows for a more natural bar path.
With all this being said about strength training, do not forget stretching and cardio workouts using our treadmills, spin bikes, or elliptical machines.
