Flowers in Strutz Art Garden Resort

For some visitors to the Strutz Art Garden Resort, the tropical gardens consist mainly of lush tropical foliage, palm trees, exotic trees, and lawn spaces. Yet, depending on the season, many of the plants reveal flowers—some small, some familiar, and some looking quirky and very exotic. There is, for example, the Coral Tree, which is native to the Philippines and produces dense clusters of bright crimson-red blossoms. Or look at the bougainvillea, which fills parts of our property with vibrant pink, purple, and white colors.

In our jungle garden, we have the upright Heliconia, often called the Macaw Flower, which is sometimes confused with the Bird of Paradise. The true Bird of Paradise, also called Strelitzia, grows in several places across our grounds. In contrast to the upright Heliconia, we also have the Hanging Lobster Claw, an eye-catching plant native to the rainforests of South America. While some flowers like the bougainvillea or the Macaw Flower show their colors the whole year round, others have distinct blooming seasons. For example, the Coral Tree flowers in the late dry season, whereas the Siam Tulip flowers during the peak of the rainy season.

One type of flower is so prevalent, the hibiscus flower, that we decided to place it into our logo. There are several varieties here, including the red and rose-colored ones, as well as a variety with large, showy red flowers where the red is framed by yellow around the edges. This hibiscus features in the oil painting by Theo Strutz, “I Love Bangued” (shown in our promotional video and here).

We invite our guests to walk around our gardens and enjoy discovering the great variety of our flowers and plants. We also bring the beauty of these flowers closer to our guests by placing fresh cut flowers from our garden on our restaurant and café tables.
