A Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake Hit Abra Yesterday Night

Again a large earthquake has hit Abra. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) says that the earthquake struck at 10:59 pm, with the epicenter at Lagayan, Abra and depth of 13 km. No damages has been found in Strutz Art Garden Resort. However, the Aglipayan Church (The Nuestra Señora de La Paz in Poblacion) in La Paz, was damaged. Since then, many aftershocks are being felt, one as large as 4.8 this morning. Like the large earthquake that hit Abra on July 27, it was tectonic in origin which means it was caused by the sudden slip of tectonic plates at an active fault (if it is volcanic in nature, it is caused by the movement of magma in a volcano).

Despite the shock, our hotel guests enjoyed their stay with us.
